Shah Faisal Masjid – Beauty of Islamabad

The¬†Shah Faisal Masjid is the largest mosque in Pakistan, located in the capital city of Islamabad. Shah Faisal Masjid was completed in 1986. It is shaped like a desert Bedouin’s tent. It is an iconic symbol of Islamabad throughout the world.

Shah Faisal Masjid was not only largest in Pakistan but it was largest mosque of world from 1986 to 1993. In 1993 it became second in size after the creation of Hassan II Mosque in Morocco. It became fourth largest in size after the expansions of the Majid al-Haram in Mecca and the Masjid al-Nabawi of Medina.

The Shah Faisal Masjid is believed as the National Mosque of Pakistan. It is named after the late King of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Abdul-Aziz. The King financed and supported the project.
